The lesser prairie-chicken (Tympanuchus pallidicinctus; hereafter LEPC) is a North American grouse species that occupies sand sagebrush (Artemisia filifolia), sand shinnery oak (Quercus havardii) and mixed grass vegetation communities of the southern Great Plains. Historically, LEPC occupied an estimated range of approximately 182,843 sq. mi however boundaries of this estimated range included many areas of unlikely habitat in shortgrass prairies.
