The research project includes an evaluation of leading vs. lagging left turn signal phasing and all red clearance intervals. The report presents the results of the part of the research involving leading vs. lagging left turn signal sequences. It was found that, in general, lagging sequences at selected types of intersections can provide safety and delay advantages over the (more common in Indiana) leading sequences. Guidelines were developed on the basis of research results for the use of the leading and lagging signal sequences in Indiana.
