Archaeological Excavation of Recon John Shelter (5PE648) on the Fort Carson Military Reservation, Pueblo County, Colorado

Archaeological excavation was conducted at a prehistoric rock shelter site on the Fort Carson Military Reservation, southeastern Colorado. Data analysis indicates that technological innovation and change were minimal during the span of occupation of the site, with the exceptions of reduction in projectile point size and introduction of ceramics in the Early Ceramic period. Recon John Shelter retains the potential to yield important prehistoric data, and it is recommended that the site be enrolled on the National Register of Historic Places and permanently protected.
