White-Tailed Deer of Cades Cove: Population Status, Movements and Survey of Infectious Diseases

The report provides the results of a research study on the population dynamics, movement ecology, and diseases of white-tailed deer in Cades Cove, Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Data on movement ecology and population status were obtained to provide a better understanding of the dynamics of the following diseases, which are being monitored in the Cove's deer population: hemorrhagic disease, leptospirosis, bovine virus diarrhea, infectious bovine rhinotracheitis, anaplasmosis and brucellosis. Assessments of the potential impacts of each of these diseases and recommendations for future control and management are presented.
