Comparison of I2-Stabilised HE-NE Lasers

Two iodine-stabilized HeNe lasers (wavelength 0.633 micrometer) have been compared in frequency at Arthus University, Institute of Physics, Denmark in December 1988. The designs of the two lasers were such that the lasers should satisfy the requirements specified by the International Conference for Weights & Measures in connection with the present definition of the unit of length, one meter. The report gives full details of the comparison procedure, including some construction details of the lasers of importance in determining system performance, and a discussion of a least-squares analysis of the measurements.
