Approximate Analysis of Isotropic and Chiral Slabs by the Averaging Method

The report is the continuation of the authors' previous report concerning vector circuit modelling of homogeneous isotropic achiral and chiral slabs in terms of dyadic impedances and admittances and tangential field components. The field analysis applied is based on the method of averaging Fourier-transformed fields inside the slab. Here the method is extended to cover different approximations related to thin slabs or slabs with different propagation constants ratios. The paper discusses homogeneous and nonhomogeneous isotropic achiral and chiral slabs, appropriate to calculate propagated and reflected fields for general excitation. Thin slabs in wavelengths normal to the interfaces, as well as in wavelengths in transversal directions are studied. A case when a slab can be simulated by a sheet is also discussed. The results obtained can be useful in many practical situations, for example, for multilayered structures with small differences in parameters of the layers, or, vice versa, for slabs with contrast parameters.
