摘要

The objective of the study is to highlight how Japan has used technology forecasting and technology information for catching up with the west in high technology areas. The focus is to bring out how a small country like Japan became a pioneer in the field of electronics. The strategy has elements which is useful for use by India in trying to catch up. The basic premise of the study is that catching up is a strategic decision and needs coordinated efforts by industry and government and it will involve changes such as stimulating demand, industrial restructuring, forward looking, intensive technology development, and selection and nurturing of new industries.
