摘要

The Hawk Mountain Wilderness Study Area (OR-001-146A) encompasses approximately 69,640 acres along the Oregon-Nevada State line. Geologic, geochemical, and geophysical surveys of the study area were conducted by the U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Bureau of Mines to evaluate the identified (known) mineral resources and to assess the mineral resource potential (undiscovered). No resources were identified in the study area. No mines or claims were observed in the study area nor are there any records of production or oil, gas, or geothermal leases for the study area. The study area is underlain by Tertiary volcanic rocks that are locally hydrothermally altered and silicified. In this region, altered rocks may host deposits of mercury, silver, and gold and industrial minerals (clay and zeolite). In addition, the geologic setting of the study area is favorable for rhyolite-hosted tin deposits.
