摘要

The amount of surface-water runoff and ground-water recharge from Black Hillswatersheds depends primarily on natural factors such as precipitation and geology but also is influenced by human factors such as dam construction and changes of forest cover from forest fire suppression or logging. Runoff data from gaging stations show, in general, that discharge of Black Hills streams has diminished in the century, although some exceptions exist at individual gaging stations. A general runoff equation for the Black Hills was developed with data from streams that drain areas of Precambrian or Tertiary crystalline rocks so that the influence of geology and ground-water losses could be minimized. Individual rainfall/runoff relationships were examined for 12 Black Hills watersheds in an attempt to predict annual runoff and to perform trend analyses of water yield.
