摘要

The Indian Health Service (IHS), an agency of the U.S. Public Health Service, is charged with raising the health status of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest possible level. To achieve its mission, IHS has three distinct program management responsibilities: It designs, operates, and maintains with Indian people a total health system; It secures and manages the required financial and professional resources to support that system; It assists the tribes as they exercise their right of self-determination. Achieving the IHS mission means, then, successfully managing a complex set of health care, financial, and technical assistance programs.
