Synthesis and Characterization of Copolymers of Methylmethacrylate

摘要

The results of the study may be summarized as follows: (1) Polymerization data indicates that the molecular weight of polyphenyl methacrylate is lower than that of polymethyl methacrylate due to more unsaturation; (2) The glass transition temperature of polyphenyl methacrylate is 389 K whereas the glass transition temperature of polymethyl methacrylate is 380 K. It has been concluded that the glass transition temperature of copolymers decreases as the content of phenylmethacrylate decreases; (3) Methyl methacrylate is more reactive than phenylmethacrylate; (4) Homopolymers go to monomers through depolymerization which occurs through a disproportionation reaction; and (5) Copolymers apart from depolymerization form anhydride, which liberates CO2 and CH3OH. In copolymers the phenylmethacrylate appears to be a stabilizing component.
