摘要

In March 1989, New World Research, Inc. inaugurated a program of data recovery at 16Vn791, a prehistoric site at Fort Polk Military Reservation, Fort Polk, Louisiana. The work was carried out under contract with the National Park Service, Southeast Region, with funds transferred from the Department of the Armt. The excavations produced a large artifact inventory that was dominated by chipped stone remains. Diagnostics indicated the site was used intensively during the Late Archaic Period. Analysis of the Late Archaic Projectile Points enabled the researchers to suggest two phases of occupation during that period. These have been defined as the Birds Creek and Dooley Branch phases. In addition, several San Patrice artifacts were recovered.
