摘要

The Sandoz accident induced a rapid development in the mathematical modelling of accidental spills. River Basin Authorities are now using new models as support for determining the possible measures to be taken in case of spills. The article discusses the requirements of such models. A model application used in the Dutch management of the Rhine river is described. Examples of its use, derived from the Sandoz accident are presented.
