Applications of the Parallel Shooting Method on the Convex C-240.

The implementation on the Convex C-240 of two special purpose programs in the field of nonlinear mechanics of shell structures is discussed. Both programs use the parallel shooting method to solve the governing equations. The shooting method is briefly summarized and it is shown that it is possible to accelerate the method considerably by exploiting the vector and parallel facilities on the Convex C-240. The effects of vectorization and parallelization on the CPU and wall clock time are reported for some representative test cases.
