摘要

The document is a final report on a research project jointly sponsered by theNational Science Foundation and the Scanion Plan Associates. The goal of the project was to develop and test a dynamic model of the Scanion management system. Data used to test the model were collected from twelve companies over a fifty-five week period. The Scanion Fact Finding Survey was distributed to a sample of employees in each firm on a weekly basis. Although the number of employees surveyed each week depended on the size of the company, the average weekly sample size was 13. In all, 6,544 surveys were completed by the employees who participated in the study. Additionally, companies provided weekly or monthly descriptions of the innovations suggested by employees and the Scanion committees' actions regarding the suggestions. Finally, the companies provided information on their performance (for example, indications of the firm's profits, return on equity, and turnover), as well as indicating the dates when bonuses were paid.
