Broadening the Scope: Long-Range Research Plan for the Nineties (NationalInstitute of Dental Research)

The National Institute of Dental Research (NIDR) saw the need to produce a newand expanded agenda for oral health research, one that would demonstrate the readiness of research investigators to go beyond the targets set in Challenges for the Eighties: the NIDR Long-Range Research Plan for FY 1985-89. Thus, Broadening the Scope: the NIDR Long-Range Research Plan for the Nineties has come into being. The new agenda represents the thinking of NIDR staff and hundreds of consultants enlisted by the Institute to help chart the course ahead. The new plan emphasizes several major initiatives that link many of the individual research recommedations together under a common theme. These themes are spelled out in greater detail throughout the volume, but essentially they embody the broadening of the scope of dental research and practice that has given the volume its name.
