Assessment of the Private Sector: A Case Study and Its Methodological Implications

The paper reports the findings of an assessment of the constraints on the private sector and the directional changes required for its development in Ghana. It is the first of a series of studies by the Public Sector Management and Private Sector Development Division of the World Bank to assist its country departments and borrower governments to analyze the problems facing the private sector and to design tools and policies to promote private sector development.
