Learning the R and D System: Industrial R and D in Japan and the United States

The Office of Japan Affairs of the National Research Council organized a series of workshops on the differences and similarities in the working environment for research in Japan and the United States. Understanding these differences is essential in order to expand U.S. scientists' and engineers' access to Japan's research and development (R&D) system and to enhance mutually beneficial collaboration between the two countries. The report highlights major themes from the third workshop in the series.
