The two-volume proceedings describe the latest research and development effortsto improve particulate control devices, while treating traditional concerns of operational cost and compliance. Overall, particulate control remains a key issue in the cost and applicability of furnace sorbent injection, spray dryers, fluidized-bed combustion, municipal solid waste, and advanced power generation processes. EPRI and EPA cosponsored the symposium, in San Diego, CA, March 20-23, 1990, featuring more than 80 presentations. Participants included approximately 350 representatives of utilities, manufacturers, universities, architect/engineering firms, and research organizations. Two parallel sessions emphasized fabric filter and electrostatic precipitator (ESP) research. Several sessions addressed high-temperature filtration as well as the impact of new sulfur dioxide control processes on baghouses and ESPs. Volume 2 contains sessions on low ration baghouse O&M experience, pulse-jet baghouse experience, particulate control for AFBCs, particulate control for dry SO2 control processes, baghouse design and performance studies, fundamental baghouse studies, high temperature filtration, and control of emissions from RDF incinerators. Both fabric filters and ESPs are discussed in the AFBC and dry SO2 control papers.
