Fatigue Prediction Analysis Validation from SL-7 Hatch Corner Strain Data

The objective of the report is to provide a comparison of the hatch corner fatigue cracking experience of the SL-7 container ships with theoretical fatigue calculations. The fatigue study was based on hatch corner strain gage data collected from two of the vessels in transoceanic service. Strain histories for the hatch corners as originally designed and as modified are included. Fatigue damage evaluations were carried out using: (a) deterministic fatigue life calculations, (b) probabilistic fatigue life calculations, and (c) fracture mechanic calculations.
