Endurance Testing of an Automotive Derivative Natural Gas Engine. Topical Report, May 1990

The report describes the results of endurance testing a number of light-duty gas engines at various speeds and loads. The subject engines were all 454 cubic inch displacement automotive gasoline engines converted to operate on natural gas. Both naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines were tested. The results include performance, oil consumption, and blow-by for the duration of the tests. Lubricating oil analyses for the duration of the tests are also presented. Wear rates of critical engine components are shown and analysis of failed components is presented.
