Potential for Natural Gas to Displace Oil in Response to the Middle East Crisisand the Implications for the GRI R and D Program

Although the significance of Iraq's invasion of Kuwait is indeterminate, a movetoward more efficient use of energy in end use applications and increased reliance on domestic energy sources is anticipated. The short and long term potential for natural gas to displace oil in end use applications is analyzed and R&D initiatives are proposed that would accelerate the development of technology by GRI and the gas industry necessary to maximize the substitution of gas for oil.
