摘要

A crop growth simulation model has been used to assess the potential for maizeproduction in Zambia under various crop management systems, ranging from low input subsistence farming to large scale commercial farming using high input cropping technologies. The report focusses on the risks involved with the adoption of improved cropping practices by small scale farmers that impede a widespread transition to commercial farming. Modern cropping technologies however are a necessity to arrive at the desired significant higher level of productivity of food and cash crops.
