摘要

The 31-acre Chemical Leaman Tank Lines site is a liquid tanker truck terminal andcleaning operation in Logan Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey. Surrounding land use is primarily rural residential. An extensive wetlands area occupies the southern and eastern portions of the site. An underlying aquifer was used as a local drinking water supply until the late 1970s when ground water contaminants including solvents, were detected in the aquifer. From 1961 to 1975, wastewater from tanker washing and rinsing operations was discharged into a network of seven unlined settling/aeration lagoons, which have been determined to be the source of the present organic and inorganic contamination of soil, ground water, and adjacent wetlands. The Record of Decision (ROD) addresses remediation of the ground water contaminant plume. Subsequent RODs will address source control, surface water, and sediment contamination. The primary contaminants of concern affecting ground water are VOCs including benzene, PCE, and TCE; other organics; and metals including arsenic, chromium, and lead.
