Kempton Man Shaft Seepage Barrier Grout Injection Kempton/Coketon Mine Complex.

The Kempton Man Shaft Project (the Project) was implenented to demonstrate the use of coal combustion (CCBs) as a suitable material to produce a pozzolan-based CCB grout for injection. The intention of the grout injection was to form a seepage barrier to fill the seepage barrier bedrock fractures in the near vicinity of the Kempton Man Shaft, thereby decreasing the drainage of good-quality ground water from the shallow aquifer into the Man Shaft. Water that flows into the Man Shaft is transported through the Kempton Mine no. 42 and ultimately contributes to acid mine drainage discharges into Laurel Run to the north.
