The report presents preliminary estimates covering the financial structure and operations of nonbank U.S. companies and their nonbank foreign affiliates for fiscal year 1988. The estimates supplement those in 'U.S. Multinational Companies: Operations in 1988,' in the June 1990 SURVEY OF CURRENT BUSINESS. That article also presented revised estimates of key items for 1987, provided highlights of the operations of U.S. multinational companies (MNC's) in 1988 based on changes in assets, sales, employment, and U.S. merchandise trade, and discussed, in more detail, sales of services by U.S. MNC's in 1988.
