Institutional revitalization is increasingly being recognized as a critical issue for agricultural universities in the developing world. Concern about this issue prompted the Agency for International Development's (A.I.D's) Center for Development Information and Evaluation to undertake a study of agricultural universities in 10 countries: India, Indonesia, Thailand, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Ethiopia, Morocco, Nigeria, and Malawi. The report synthesizes the major issues that arose from the individual country studies. It is also an interpretive essay in that it discusses the significance of the studies' findings with the intent of provoking debate and dialogue on the future of agricultural higher education.
