U.S. Seed Exports, July-December 1988, 1989/90: U.S. Planting Seed Trade Balance July-June Marketing Years 1967/68 Through 1988/89

Total registrations under the fiscal year (FY) 1990 GSM-102 planting seed credit lines now equal $6.25 million out of a total $29.5 million in guarantees. Total U.S. planting seed exports by value during July-December 1990 reached $279.4 million, up 26 percent from the same period a year earlier. Mexico was the top-ranked market, with shipments valued at $59.1 million. Forage and turf seed exports totalled $48.2 million, up 1 percent from a year ago. Non-leguminous vegetables declined 9 percent to $71.4 million. Field crop seed exports surged 116 percent to $127.1 million benefitting from first-time inclusion of wheat seed and substantial increases in corn and grain sorghum seed. Total U.S. planting seed imports in marketing year (MY) 1988/89 set a record at $174.0 million, up 23 percent from the previous record set in MY 1986/87.
