Initiation of Callus Cultures and Plantlet Regeneration from Seagrasses andMarine Coastal Plants

Previous studies indicated that it was possible to initiate callus cultures frommarine and freshwater seagrasses and coastal plants. Further investigation into media formulations and environmental conditions were necessary to promote continued callus expansion and rapid cell replication. The focus of the study was to significantly expand the number of plants involved in callus tissue culture experimentation, the number of parameters applied to callus incubation, and the number of formulations tested for callus induction. Methods of callus subculture, callus cyropreservation, suspension cell culture, somatic embryogenesis, and plantlet regeneration were also investigated.
