摘要

The research was designed to investigate the impact of early deafness on theinteraction of deaf infants and their normally hearing mothers in the first 18 months of the child's life. Specifically, the study focused on the relationships between the face-to-face interaction of these mothers and infants and the infants' motivation to engage the physical environment, their ability to cope with interactive stress, and their developing communicative competence. These relationships are viewed within the context of family response to the diagnosis of deafness and available support from internal and external sources.
