The main objectives of the report are to (1) analyze the importance and causes ofpoverty in Egypt in the context of the present economic crisis, (2) assess the distributional impacts of the macroeconomic reforms envisaged under the structural adjustment program, and (3) outline a strategy for policy interventions to alleviate the aggravation of poverty which might otherwise result.
