Municipal Solid Waste Composting: Technologies, Health Effects, Effects on PlantGrowth and Yield, Regulations, and Descriptions of U.S. Sites

As stated in the Illinois Solid Waste Management Act, composting is considered tobe an acceptable alternative to landfilling. There are nine operational municipal solid waste (MSW) composting facilities and one pilot program reviewed in the report. Other facilities in operation or under construction in the U.S. are summarized in the Appendix. The report also discusses the following topics: composting technology, potential effects of MSW compost on human health and plant growth and yield, and regulations.
