Southern California Bight Physical Oceanography: Proceedings of a Workshop. Held in La Jolla, California on November 27-29, 1990

The report documents the proceedings of the 'Southern California Bight Physical Oceanography Workshop' held at Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) on November 27-29, 1990 to review the scientific and technical information available to assess the potential impact of oil and gas exploration in the Southern California Bight (SCB), and make recommendations on how to improve that knowledge base to overcome deficiencies noted by the National Research Council (NRC 1989). The workshop was conducted in three parts. Technical experts first gave overviews representing the state of knowledge in different subdisciplines, including atmospheric circulation, shelf and slope circulation, mixing and dispersion, and application of observations. On the second day workshop attendees were divided up into working groups to recommend a course of action which would enable MMS to effectively predict impact. On the third day all the group recommendations were coordinated into a number of workshop recommendations.
