Geographic Payment Areas for the Medicare Fee Schedule: Alternative Approaches

The study is a sensitivity analysis of alternatives to the 240 current Medicare pricing localities (status quo) or statewide geographic areas for possible use in the Medicare (physician) Fee Schedule (MFS). It considers the subdivision of States to recognize differences in costs of practice in large metropolitan areas. Also the use of density to distinguish very rural areas is examined.
