摘要

The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), with assistance from the United States Trade and Development Program (TDP), commissioned a feasibility study to determine the commercial viability of a tuna transshipping and joining facility at Majuro. The project's terms of reference requested information on the following topics: the regional tuna resources and their potential, tuna fishing methods and catches, regional tuna facilities, international tuna markets, tuna processing methods, the general design of a loining plant within the limits of the local infrastructure along with estimated capital and operating costs, human resource requirements and economic impacts. A discussion of the various options and their viability are included, followed by conclusions and recommendations. The analyses show tuna processing in Majuro is technically and commercially feasible, but limited due to fresh-water availability and markets. Tuna canning has greater viability than the other options.
