Goat Production in Rwanda, 1953-1984: Assessing the Potential for Future Development.

Rwanda's goat industry has increased nearly 100% over the past 10-15 years, with the goat population now totalling about 1.9 million. Goats are the most commonly owned animal in virtually every region of the country and are found on over half of Rwanda's farms. The report analyzes market, demographic, and household characteristics and changes associated with recent changes in goat production and other livestock activities. It also examines the integration of goat production into other aspects of Rwandan agriculture at the household level. On the basis of these analyses, the report then discusses technological innovations and policy changes necessary to further develop Rwanda's livestock industry.
