Epidemiology of Transport-Related Coal Mining Injuries.

The project investigated circumstances and causes of off-road transport vehicle- and mobile equipment-related injuries among underground and surface coal miners. Among underground miners, transport-related injuries constitute a third of all fatalities, and as many as one-fourth of all injuries. In surface mines, they constitute as much as 60 percent of all fatalities and almost half of all non-fatal events. Transport-related injuries affect many occupations besides coal mining, and are a much-understudied public health problem.
