The 76-page report describes the basic skills necessary to safely evacuatepassengers, especially those with personal mobility limitations, from transit vans and buses during vehicle emergencies. Although the report focus is on assistance techniques, there is additional supporting information intended to help drivers make better choices in dealing with vehicle emergencies. The techniques are drawn from those used by fire service personnel, emergency medical technicians and paramedics, physical therapist, nurses and other people providing first aid. Topics include marking the decision to evacuate a vehicle, handling precautions for people with specific disabilities, basic evacuation techniques, features of wheelchairs affecting evacuations, and on-board auxiliary equipment which might affect the evacuation process.
