Highway construction projects along the California coast can potentially damageadjacent salt water marches causing a loss of saltmarsh values. This guidance manual contains information on site assessment, monitoring, planning, design, construction, operations and maintenance activites associated with saltmarsh restoration projects along the coast of Central California. The manual provides a checklist for each major mitigation activity and background information. The manual will serve as a set of instructions for Caltrans personnel to carry out planning, construction and monitoring of saltmarsh mitigation projects.
