Proceedings are presented of an international conference to review the presentand plan for the future use of molecular techniques in improving potato germplasm. Individual papers discuss the following topics: strategic aspects of using molecular techniques for germplasm improvement, asymmetric hybridization and inter-generic transfer of disease resistance, application of molecular techniques in Latin America and Africa, gene identification and gene transfer, use of synthetic genes to enhance nutritional quality and disease resistance.
