Design and Development of a Mortar Base Plate Using Fibre Reinforced PlasticMaterials

This is an interim report describing the work done on a joint project between theEidgenossische Waffenfabrik Bern (W+F) and Asea Brown Boveri Corporate Research (ABB). The aim is to develop a composite mortar base plate and the present work forms the third stage of the project. In the first stage, a feasibility study was conducted and this was followed by a second stage in which a design was formulated. The objective of the present stage is to produce actual prototypes based on the earlier design. To date, the design has been further refined and the prototype production phase has begun. A testing program, necessary to evaluate plate performance, has been formulated and is described in the report below. But first a description of the final prototype design is given. The report ends with a general discussion and suggestions for further work.
