The conference was called primarily to increase international investor awarenessof the significant opportunities opening through the boom in privatization in Latin America. The privatization conference was designed to disseminate current information on planned privatizations, facilitate contacts between key national officials and U.S. business, and to suggest actions to bring buyer and seller expectations closer. The high level of Latin American participation reflects the growing view that international participation is essential if the assets Latin America plans to privatize are to become efficient providers of competitive products and services.
