Measuring Progress Toward the National Education Goals: Public Testimony. Volume4. Minutes of the Regional Forums

The volume contains the minutes of each of eight regional forums conducted acrossthe country by the National Education Goals Panel between April 12 and May 17, 1991. The purpose of the forums was to solicit public comment on what information the Goals Panel should use to measure the progress of the nation and states toward meeting the six national education goals. The goals were adopted by President Bush and the 50 state Governors in February 1990. Eight Governors, with the help of the network of regional educational laboratories funded by the U.S. Department of Education, hosted the meetings. Four of the Governors were members of the Goals Panel; four were not. Each host Governor was asked to invite a delegation from five or six neighboring states to attend the meeting in his state capitol, so individuals from every state could make their views known.
