Intelligent Manufacturing Systems (IMS) program, an international cooperativeresearch program, concerns production technologies and technology transfer on an international level between production generations. This concentrates upon the goal of information integration technology to contribute to the overall creation of value through efficient production activities. Information integration system architecture, data models, communication models, information processing, and work packages for IMS are discussed as are the global trends in information integration technologies. Proposals for research and development themes on information integration are included.
