Archaeological and Historical Study in Preparation for Development of the AndyKrakow Memorial Fisheries Access Area in the City of Montello, in Marquette County, Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources conducted an archaeological surveyin Montello, Wisconsin, in preparation for development of the Andy Krakow Memorial Fisheries Access Area. The purpose of the work was to determine if proposed construction is likely to adversely affect significant archaeological remains. The fieldwork involved shovel testing and surface reconnaissance. In addition to this, informants were interviewed and historical documents were used to reconstruct the history of the property. The work resulted in the discovery of one previously unrecorded archaeological site (Mq-107), and the documentation of various historical structures.
