Superfund Record of Decision (EPA Region 2): Warwick Landfill, Town of Warwick,Orange County, NY. (First Remedial Action), June 1991

The 13-acre Warwick Landfill is an inactive municipal and industrial wastedisposal site in the Town of Warwick, Orange County, New York. The estimated 3,000 people who reside approximately 1.5 miles northeast of the site use residential wells as a source of drinking water. From 1898 until its closure in 1978, the Warwick Landfill accepted municipal and industrial wastes and sludge. Landfill contamination is attributed to the unpermitted and illegal disposal practices conducted by waste haulers and trespassers. The Record of Decision (ROD) addresses the contaminant source, the onsite landfill, and provides an interim ground water remedy for the first operable unit (OU1). The final remedy for ground water (OU2) will be addressed in a subsequent ROD. The primary contaminants of concern affecting the soil, and ground water are VOCs including benzene, TCE, toluene, and xylenes; other organics including PAHs and phenols; and metals including arsenic, chromium, and lead. The selected remedial action for the site is included.
