摘要

A wide variety of fish and other aquatic species are capable of metabolicbiotransformations that are qualitatively similar to oxidative Phase I and conjugative Phase II reactions observed in mammals. An extensive body of literature exists describing microsomal cytochrome P450-related biotransformation and induction in several freshwater and marine organisms. Collectively, these data are useful for the investigation of interspecies homologies and the determination of potential biological indicators for environmental monitoring. Furthermore, the elucidation of reactive metabolite formation has played a crucial role in the understanding of toxicity mechanisms for many compounds in a variety of species, although some pathways and chemical-specific bioactivation rates have not yet been characterized in fish.
