Regenerative Desulfurization in an Interconnected Fluidized Bed System

The study presented in this thesis aims at the further development of a processfor regenerative desulfurization, applied to atmospheric fluidized bed combustion (FBC) of coal for electricity production. It elaborates on an investigation that was initiated in 1986 at Delft University of Technology (DUT), with the final goal to reduce the production of solid waste from dry sulfur capture processes in FBC, and to convert the coal-bound sulfur into a useful product. To attain this goal, a synthetic sorbent has been developed which could be applied in an isothermal, regenerative desulfurization process. In this work, the fluidized-bed behavior of this sorbent is investigated, and an integrated reactor system for the regenerative process is developed.
