摘要

This report covers the development of the equipment and practices used in the electric metering art in the United States from experiments of the very early days to the highly efficient status of the present. The men who made outstanding contributions to the industrial and scientific progress of the art are mentioned and an attempt is made to show how each contribution influenced the industry. Some sources of further information are appended.\nAlthough the art of metering electric energy was well developed by the time of the first edition, there have been a number of significant advances since 1940. Changing social and economic conditions coupled with engineering progress have brought on numerous changes in construction and procedures for use of electric meters. With only minor changes, the material of the first edition has been retained. New material has been inserted where it seems appropriate. Many illustrations have been added, and the appendix material has been extended.
