A method is described for forming thoria cathodes by electrochemical means, namely cataphoresis. In this method a thin layer of thoria is deposited over an underlying metal. A temperature scale is set up and the spectral emissivity is determined for this type of coating. Also, the electron emission constants were measured over a range of temperatures and it was found that these constants are different for d-c and pulsed emission. In addition, data are presented which set an upper limit to the resistivity of thoria as a function of temperature. (Author)
